Natalie Magee is a singer,
songwriter and performer based in Canberra Australia. Hailed
as one of the outstanding new young breed of singers and
performers, Natalie immerses herself in music from many
genres, particularly the jazz repertoire, contemporary songs
and her own original material.
With an engaging stage
presence, captivating voice and mature and professional
manner, Natalie takes her audiences on an eclectic musical
journey, backed by numerous different combinations of
musicians from a duet of piano or guitar to trios,
quartets, quintets and big band. Natalie also accompanies
herself at the piano for some of her own
compositions.
Natalie launched
herself as a performer in 2006 at the University of Canberra
in a one woman show entitled An Evening With Natalie Magee
when aged just 15. Since then Natalie has gone on to win
numerous singing prizes in Canberra and Sydney Eisteddfods,
and was a finalist in the McDonalds Contempory Arts Challenge
in Sydney in 2007 and 2008.
She was invitied to perform
in the Canberra Cantata at Llewellyn Hall in May 2008 for
composer Peter J Casey, singing with the Royal Military
College Band Duntroon and also at both the Manly and Merimbula
jazz festivals, all to critical aclaim. Natalie continues the
end-of-year concert tradition she began in 2006, which for
2008 was Natalie Magee Live, performed at the Street Theatre on 21st
November. Audiences were particularly captivated by her
rendition of her original composition, Wall Street,
accompanied by Sally Greenaway at the piano.
Natalie has a regular weekly
engagement at the Dendy Cinemas with her jazz trio and is now
commencing selected engagements for corporate and private
events.
Her mentors and influences
include Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Alicia Keys, Missy
Higgins, Diana Krall, Anita O'Day, Stevie Wonder, John
Mayer and of course her singing teachers, Deb Downes and
Vince Jones.
Natalie is currently
undertaking a Batchelor of Music, Jazz Studies at the
Australian National University School of Music, majoring in
vocal jazz. |
