I've been awarded an Audrey Fagen
Young Womens Enrichment
Grant!
It has been a little while since my last
entry. So many exciting things have been happening, its hard
to keep on top of them all.
I was recently
fortunate enough to be a recipient of an Audrey Fagen Young
Womens Enrichment Grant.
This fantastic initiative is providing
women in male dominated fields with funding to pursue their
ambitions in their chosen art form.
I will be using the grant to help fund
the recording of my first studio album some time in 2010.

My Brazilian themed concert
honouring the music of Antonio Carlos
Jobim
As part of the ANU and New Acton Taste
the Music program, I will be presenting a concert at Du Jour,
performing the music of Brazilian composer Antonio Carlos
Jobim. I will be singing half the repertoire half in
Portuguese and half in English.
The musical program will be accompanied
by a matching menu of traditional food from Brazil. Tickets
are $55 and bookings are essential.

A few exciting performances to kick
start the year!
In February this year I performed as part
of the Enderby Music 2010 jazz series. It was a very exciting
opportunity for me as I appeared on a double bill with the
infamous Kristin Berardi winner of the 2006 Montreux Jazz
Vocal Competition.
Kristin and I each made guest appearances
in each others shows, performing the jazz standards Just
Friends and Girl from Ipanema together.
I recorded my concert and have released
it as my first live album Natalie Magee Live at the
Street.
April saw another exciting performance
opportunity for me. My application to play at the National
Folk Festival in Canberra was accepted. This was the first
major festival that I performed at. My band and I (Aidan
Lowe/drums) (Rafael Jerjen/Bass) performed 3 shows together
and I performed 2 solo shows.
For our last performance at the
festival we were extremely fortunate to be joined by guitarist
Jeff Peterson who
had travelled all the way from Hawaii for his Australian Tour.
Jeff had heard one of our earlier
performances and approached me to ask if he could sit in on
our next gig. I was completely humbled and ecstatic with
excitement and it was a kind gesture of Jeffs part to
encourage an upcoming band such as myself and the boys.
This was one of the greatest highlights
of my career so far and I was very much on a performance high
for quite some time afterwards.

After a thrilling festival in 2009 and a
promising start the 2010 Jazz series I have made the decision
to leave my role as Marketing Director for Enderby Music in
order to give more focus to my studies and my original music.
Working with my two business
partners at Enderby Music has been an incredibly exciting and
challenging experience and I have gained a wealth of knowledge
during my time there. We are very proud of how far the
business has come, from an initial idea to a production house
that can now claim successfully curated and promoted jazz
concerts in Canberra featuring the likes of Jamie Oehlers (2007 Jazz artist
of the year), Sandy
Evans (2003 Jazz Artist of the Year), Aria Award Winner Miroslav Bukovsky and
internationally acclaimed Eric
Ajaye.
I wish my business partners the best of
luck and continued success with their endeavour with Enderby
Music and will
miss my role there very much.

My first studio
album!
Last week I began recording my first
studio album. I have been working on it, talking and thinking
about it for a very, very, very long time so although it is
confronting, Im incredibly excited to say it has begun!!
Last week we recorded all the band parts
for 8 tracks. The remaining tracks will be just piano/guitar
and voice. It was a crazy week, with 3 hour rehearsals turning
into 8 hour rehearsals, and 11.5 hours in the studio on our
first day recording.
