Do you own an historic piano? Maybe you don't even know that your piano could be historic?

Some very old pianos, particularly some European makes, could be of historic importance in the evolution of the piano over the centuries.

Whilst they don't necessarily have any significant monetary value, they are none-the-less fascinating pieces of music history and are often also beautiful furniture pieces.

Ronisch, Bechstein, Richard Lipp and Sohn, Gors and Kallman, Bluthner, Steinway, and Grotrian are just a few examples.

Quite often, old pianos of this nature are in poor mechanical and tuning condition (even though they may look lovely). Bringing them back into playable and enjoyable condition presents a range of challenges for the piano technician!

I'm quite keen on preserving fine old instruments if they can possibly be saved. Sometimes however, it is my sad duty to explain to a customer that a piano is too old and worn out to be tunable and probably not worth the cost of repairs.

This is not a decision I come to without careful consideration and exhausive testing of mechanical, structural and tuning and tonal aspects of the instrument.

I have however, brought back to life and continue to maintain many fine historic pianos in Canberra and further afield. Call me to discuss your piano and it's needs.
